Corona cases news India: India’s 7-day average of Covid cases crosses 40,000 again | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Kerala reported a slight drop in fresh Covid-19 cases on Friday but numbers rose for the second straight day in Tamil Nadu even as India’s daily case count dipped marginally but remained above 41,000 for the fourth day running.
India reported 41,454 fresh cases of the virus on Friday, down from 44,681 on the previous day, breaking a three-day streak of rising infections in the country. However, Friday’s count was higher than the number of cases reported last Friday, indicating the growing trend in infections.
Accordingly, the seven-day rolling average of daily cases crossed 40,000 on Friday after having dipped below that mark on July 13. The average had dropped to a low of 37,680 on July 25 before steadily rising to 40,246 on Friday.
The slight drop in the national case count on Friday was on account of Kerala reporting fewer than 22,000 daily cases for the first time in four days. However, the state’s tally remained high at 20,772. The positivity rate in the state continued to rise at 13.6% on Friday. Infections were rising in Tamil Nadu as well. The state reported 1,947 new cases on Friday, up from 1,859 on the previous day. On Thursday, the daily case tally in the state had risen for the first time after 69 days of decline.

This was lower than Thursday’s tally of 2,052 but higher than the counts recorded in the rest of this week. In a positive sign, cases in the northeast were showing signs of declining after weeks of rise. New cases dropped below 1,000 in both Mizoram and Manipur, the two states with the highest infection counts (outside Assam) in the past week. Maharashtra reported 6,600 new cases, a slight drop from Thursday’s count of 7,242.
There were 595 deaths from the virus recorded in the country on Friday, with Maharashtra accounting for 231, Kerala 116 and Odisha 66.
