Vidisha News: Over 25 villagers fall into well as wall collapses, rescue ops on | Bhopal News – Times of India


BHOPAL: In a tragic incident, more than 25 people fell into a well in Vidisha district of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday night after its wall caved in. The wall collapsed due to the weight of a massive crowd which had gathered around to rescue a child, who had also fallen into the well.
Villagers had crammed at the spot to observe the child’s rescue. The incident was reported from the Lalpathar area around 7:30pm.

It is unclear as to whether there are any casualties. Around 12 people have been rescued by the NDRF and SDRF teams with the help of locals.
DGP Vivek Johri said that the exact number of people who might have fallen inside is not clear yet. Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was in the district for ‘kanyadan’ of three adopted girls.
He asked minister Vishwas Sarang to reach the spot and monitor rescue operations. Sources say there were more than 50 people at the spot. The CM has also directed officers to conduct a high-level inquiry into the incident, as well as provide all possible medical assistance to the injured.
There was difficulty in carrying out rescue operations due to inadequate light. Police say the boundary wall and the inside wall of the well caved in. The well is said to be 100 feet deep. Rescue operations were on till filing of this report.
